Shire of Ravensthorpe Cultural Precinct

The Shire of Ravensthorpe contracted Smarter Tourism Technology to conceptualize, procure, and establish a digital interpretive center within their newly constructed cultural precinct. The project aimed to create an immersive space where visitors could explore the region autonomously, requiring the implementation of digital solutions for a self-guided experience.

Our proposal centered on six key themes: Farming, Resources and Mining, Aboriginal Culture and Heritage, Wildflowers, The Biosphere, and The Marine Park. Content under these themes was grouped and presented using interactive touchscreens, large format video displays, and projections. Advanced directional audio technology was incorporated for an enhanced auditory experience.

Upon the development of three comprehensive options, Smarter Tourism Technology collaborated closely with the Shire to secure funding from Allkem, a resources company operating within the Shire. With a funding agreement successfully in place, our team took charge of project management, procurement, and installation, ensuring that the Shire’s procurement and other relevant policies were complied with.

Leveraging our extensive network of partners, we engaged skilled professionals, including electricians, graphic designers, and sign writers, to ensure a seamless installation process. We meticulously configured all hardware and software components, automating startup and shutdown procedures, conducting staff training, documenting the system and enabling remote support.

The resulting center boasts state-of-the-art features, including an LG video wall with directional audio smart speakers, three interactive 32-inch touchscreens equipped with touch-free audio technology which creates a narrow beam of sound only audible when a user is stood in front of the touch screen, height-adjustable touch table, and two ultra-short throw projectors for window projections. Additionally, a visitor counting solution was implemented, accurately tracking foot traffic in and out of the center, distinguishing between adults and children.

From funding confirmation to project completion, including procurement, configuration, and installation, we were able to deliver this project a six-week timeframe to coincide with the official opening of the Cultural precinct. Furthermore, Smarter Tourism Technology has been engaged to develop the content management system, ensuring dynamic curation of content displayed on the screens within the center.

Q

Smarter Tourism Technology exceeded our expectations with the delivery of this project. From the initial concept to the final delivery they showed a solid understanding of what was required, their knowledge of available technology and software was a key factor in this projects success. Their project management meant that the Shire received regular updates and Shire staff were not overladed with additional work. The project was delivered on time and within budget. We would highly recommend Smarter Tourism Technology for projects of this type. - Matthew Bird, Shire of Ravensthorpe CEO.
